Back in the US of A

Last Saturday we flew from Johannesburg to Atlanta, and then on Sunday, from Atlanta to New York. Despite a six-hour delay in departing JNB, Aviva did great.

Our friend Craig and his two daughters, Avery and Kira, were traveling with us. They helped entertain Aviva for the long flight.

Here's Avery, 5, standing by while Aviva tried to jam a huge bite of banana into her mouth.

Kira, who's 3, checked out Aviva's rattle. We a middle section of three seats to ourselves, which was nice, because we could make a little play zone for Aviva. She did try her best to escape over Peter's leg.

Most of the time she was smiling...

...but then she became very determined to climb over the barrier.

She made friends with the people sitting behind us.
And we discovered that airplane food, at least the frittata served on Delta's flight from JNB-ATL, is a perfect consistency for babies. She couldn't get enough of Peter's breakfast.

We were sad to say goodbye to the Pike family, who had just left Swaziland to move back to DC.

But we were all thrilled to finally reach Atlanta. As you can see, 24 hours of traveling took its toll on the cleanliness of Aviva's outfit....
