The Keymaster

Thanks to Aviva's Uncle Henry, we've figured out a way to compress videos enough to upload some. We haven't had time to edit these down yet, so sorry if some of them are a bit long.

Though she usually sounds very cute when she babbles, occasionally viva sounds like one of the demons from the Ghostbusters movie:

Fashion Friday #23: More Denim

It's freezing here in Swaziland! It was probably even in the 40s last night! Ok, it's not really freezing, but it's cold, at least by Swazi standards. So Aviva is dressing in warm clothes for now.

Her first outfit today is an Old Navy 3-6M yellow onesie (on top of a Gap 3-6M white onesie, for warmth). She wore it with a very cute denim 9M skirt and polka dot leggings from genuinebaby by Osh Kosh. The skirt and leggings are from Aviva's Great Aunt Cheryl. Thanks, Cheryl!

We had to show off her new found crawling skills.

Her second outfit today was a 6M long sleeved t-shirt from Little Me and her 9M Cherokee jeans. (The shirt looks like two shirts but is really one.) Both pieces are from the Sevin family. Thanks to them as always!

Happy Friday!

Sheba's Breast Hike 2 and Big Bathtub

Last weekend we needed a quick activity before meeting friend's for brunch, so we went back to Sheba's Breast. It isn't actually a quick hike, since it takes about three hours, so we only went up for an hour and then turned around.

It was hot that day, and Aviva got a bit sweaty from being smashed against my back for a couple hours, so we gave her a bath that night...in the grown-up bathtub! Usually she gets bathed in her little plastic baby bathtub, but we figured that she's big enough to enjoy the big bath now. We were right!

Here she looks a little guilty, like she knows she's not supposed to be grabbing the hose behind her...

Oops, we got a bit of water in her eyes...
As usual she couldn't resist putting her toys in her mouth.

Fashion Friday # 22: Happy Eight Month Birthday!

This week, Fashion Friday falls on a very important date: Aviva's eight month birthday!

Her first outfit is a 9M romper. The tag with the brand is missing, but I'm guessing that the outfit is from Carter's. She's also wearing a sequined butterfly in her hair.

As you can see below, she can now push herself up and straighten her legs. Here she's checking out how far she has to jump to get to the floor.

"Uh oh, they see me trying to escape!"

Her second outfit today is Osh Kosh pink and white checked overalls. As soon we put her down she started trying to move around.

Even though they're marked 3-6M, they're big on her, so we will probably save them for spring (a few months from now.)

Happy Birthday, Aviva, and Happy Friday, everyone!

Avocado Season!

Here in The Swaz it's avocado season again, so we've started picking avocados from our two trees. Aviva's enjoying this one...though it's completely not ripe yet, and she's chomping on the wrong part!

Sheba's Breast Hike

Two Saturdays ago, when Peter had to work all day, I took Aviva on a long hike with some friends. we went to the top of "Sheba's Breast," a mountain along the Ezulwini Valley. The base of the mountain is about 20 minutes away from our house. All photos in this post (except for the last one) are courtesy of our friend, Yael.

Aviva was ready for the hike, in her sun hat...

...but couldn't stay awake for long.

There were multiple babies and small children on the hike. Here we are, behind Jessi and Asher. Yael is behind us, and Joe, on the far right, was kind enough to carry our water and snacks so that I could carry Aviva.

Here's our friend Yael, showing off how steep the hike was. Ok, not all of it was that steep, but it was definitely a tough one!
And here's the view from the top.

Fashion Friday #21: Cute Onesie and More Overalls

Just a quick post today, as again I've been kinda busy with work.

First, even though it isn't one of her fancy outfits, I took a photo of Aviva in her Baby Gap 6M onesie. It's such a sweet one, and it fits her perfectly, even over her big diapers.

Second, Aviva wore a set of 3-6M lavender overalls over a long-sleeved white 6M onesie. The overalls feature a little white poodle on the front. (I can't recall the brands, and I don't want to go into her room right now while she's sleeping, so I'll add the brands to this post tomorrow.)

She's really on the verge of crawling. And sometimes she gets into "plank position" as if she's exercising her abs!

Both outfits today are from the Sevin family. Thanks to them as always.

Happy Friday!

Happy Mother's Day!

Sorry about the lateness of this post, but we've had a busy week here in The Swaz. Last Sunday, for Mother's Day, we went out to brunch with Jessi, Uri, and their son Asher, at a local restaurant called Summerfield's. We had a "lakeside" table and enjoyed the buffet. Even the babies enjoyed themselves!

Aviva looked so cute all dressed up in her matching socks, dress, and hairclip that I couldn't resist taking another photo of her once we got home:
Happy Mother's Day!

Fashion Friday #20: Random outfits

The weather has stayed surprisingly warm here, which is a good thing, because almost all of Aviva's clothes are for warm temperatures.

Today, we've got on a a 6M white t-shirt and pink overall-dress from Edgars (a local store.) This outfit was a gift from my colleague, Ruth. Thanks, Ruth!

You may be able to see from the photo below that Aviva is wearing two barrettes on the side of her hair today.

For her second outfit today, Aviva wore a long-sleeved, 6-9M onesie from Children's Place, and some 6M pink pants from Red by Marc Ecko. I'm not sure who gave us the onesie (Dan and Ozsel?), and the pants were a gift (part of a set) from Ama. Thanks!

Happy Friday!

Toys, foods, hiking, and bedtime stories

It's been a quiet week here in The Swaz, but we took a few nice shots of Aviva.

She tried some new foods, including pattypan squash (those little yellow flower-shaped ones)...

...and honeydew.

She went on a hike with Jessi, Uri, and Asher. Here she is with Peter, Asher, and Uri.

She played with some exciting toys, including a paper towel...

...and a toothpaste box.

She had a few grumpy evenings, but usually she stopped crying long enough for a bedtime story (ok, not this time.)
