Peter's Birthday Dinner, 2013

The second part of Peter's birthday celebration was a zong zi making party with our friends, the Pang-Gilmans.  Frances, Charlie, and their awesome kids Ella and Louis are relatively new additions to the Swaziland scene.  They've doubled the number of Chinese-Jewish families!

Frances' parents were in town and taught us how to wrap the glutinous rice treats, Cantonese style.

The view from their house is stunning.

We sang Happy Birthday, and Aviva, as usual, helped blow out the candles.

Happy Birthday, Peter!

Peter's Birthday

For Peter's birthday in 2013, we went on a hike to "the Gap," a part of the Komati River that disappears underground.  Peter and our friends hiked, while Aviva and Franklin and I played on the beach.

Well, Franklin mostly slept.

Thanks to our friend Vienna for the great photos!

Halloween 2013: Why didn't the chicken cross the road?

...because she wanted to dress up as a princess.

Aviva was originally going to be a chicken.  Franklin's costume then made sense, and Peter and I were going to be farmers.  Family costume!  But then, when Aviva's (borrowed) costume turned out to be too small, she refused it. A friend had a princess costume, and voila!  A princess, wearing the very fancy "party shoes" she got from Grandma Ellen.

The party was at hosted by our friends Rob and Ruth, and people handed out candy from the backs of their cars.

Happy Halloween!

FFF #23: Crocheted Doily

A few tears today, despite - or perhaps because of - his fabulous olive onesie, which is decorated with what appears to be a crocheted white doily.  The outfit is a 6M number from Le Marchand Detoiles, courtesy of cousins Seamus and Rory.  As always, thanks to them for all the fun clothes.

Happy Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, and well, Thanksgivvukah!

Tattoos and sunglasses

Franklin is showing off his rebellious side.

Hanukkah 2013

In late November, we celebrated Hanukkah with our friend Rebecca.

Aviva helps to light the candles

Latkes, chicken and rice, and challah

Happy Hanukkah, everyone!

FFF #22 Bears and baseball

Last Friday the day started out a bit cold, so Franklin stayed in his warm tracksuit in the morning.

I love my hoodie!

Pull my finger

I'm ready to start crawling

Look at my crazy sister
Later in the day, it had warmed up, so Franklin changed into his...baseball uniform.  Because he plays so much baseball.

FFF #21 More stripes

The Swazi early summer is very much like the North American spring.  One day it can be 85 degrees, sunny, and hot, and then the next day, the temperature will drop to 50, and the sky will be filled with fog and mist.  This must have been one of the sunny days.
Huh?

Now I'm ready

Duh...

Ok, I'll smile for the last one!

Franklin gets to eat stuff

On Franklin's six month birthday, Aviva and I fed him some rice cereal mixed with breast milk.  Delicious!

Accessories...or not

I think this photo is also from Sarah and Armand's baby shower.  It makes me laugh, because it seems that our family has a problem with accessories.

Sarah and Armand's Baby Shower

In November, Erik and Nicole hosted a baby shower for Sarah and Armand.  (At least, I think that's which party it was...)

It was a warm and sunny late spring/early summer day, so Franklin (of course) wore sunglasses.

Aviva relaxed in the hammock with Tao and Lily.

FFF #20: Monkeying around

So we thought it was finally time for shorts and t-shirts, but we were proven wrong again by the fickle Swazi summer.  Today it's cloudy and wet, and it was cold enough to be wearing a fuzzy onesie today.  This one is a 3M Carter's onesie from Ama and Agong.  Amazingly, it just barely still fits.

Happy Friday!
