Brasilia, Part 4: Rio and Santa Teresa

Friday morning, we woke up late and walked part of the way to the guesthouse. Even though we stopped for sustenance midway, it was too hot and we had to take a taxi the rest of the way.

At the guesthouse, all of the guests and wedding party had brunch: fresh read, sliced cold cuts and cheese, and the best part: fresh pineapple juice with mint!

After some quality beach time, we managed to steal Rachel away for a quick coffee downstairs.
We weren't really hungry, but how could we resist the fries topped with bacon and fried garlic!?!?! (To balance it out we also ordered a fruit salad.)

Saturday morning it was rainy, so we did what all good Brazilians would do: go shopping! This Brazilian mall was kept clean by a very mobile cleaning lady on rollerblades (on the right of the photo):

I thought this store was well named (with my initials):
And we got to answer one of my cravings: McDonald's fries!!!!! (We tried the banana pie, but it wasn't that good.)
We took the tram up to Santa Teresa, where we finally tried feijoada. Described by several sources as the national dish, it is a black bean and pork stew, served with rice, orange segments, and sauteed greens. Very tasty.
After our feast, we went to the famous Copacabana Palace Hotel for a nightcap (of watermelon juice.)
It took us a few tries, but we finally got the self-timer down:
